Starting a low sugar/low carb lifestyle, or any major dietary change, should always be approached in a gradual and manageable way. Making drastic changes can result in feelings of overwhelm and frustration – and not the success you’re looking for. Here are some tips my husband and I used to help us ease into a low sugar/low carb lifestyle:
- Start by reducing added sugar from tea, coffee, and other drinks.
- Reduce simple carbohydrates from processed foods and replace them with complex carbohydrates from whole-grain sources.
- Include plenty of fiber-rich vegetables and fruits in your diet as well as lean proteins, healthy fats, and other whole foods.
- Incorporate more plant-based proteins, such as legumes, into your meals.
- If you’re having difficulty, talk to your doctor or nutritionist for advice and support.
By taking small, but steady steps and remaining consistent, you can successfully start a low sugar/low carb lifestyle. With a bit of patience and perseverance, you’ll begin to feel the positive effects of this lifestyle in no time.
